Join the Hillcrest Town Council for our February Community Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 6:30-8 pm! HTC’s Hillcrest Arts Committee will share a presentation with us about art in the neighborhood! We’ll learn about art that already exists in the neighborhood (known and not so well known murals, public art, etc), what opportunities exist in the neighborhood to create more art, a look at the galleries that exist, and the various known and little known art shows that are happening in Hillcrest — plus a look into the ideas the Arts Committee has to bring even more art to the neighborhood. This is a presentation not to miss!
Of course, there will also be plenty of time to discuss neighborhood issues, share public comment, and hear updates from our local community organizations and elected official representatives!
Note: March will be our annual meeting so at our February meeting, we’ll share some proposed bylaw changes that will be voted on in March, and also open up nominations for board elections.
We want your involvement in the neighborhood in 2019! Bring a friend or neighbor! Everyone is welcome!

Change is in the air this fall for the Hillcrest art scene, starting with Hillcrest Town Council’s newly launched arts committee.
Committee chair Erik Benson said the group will focus on bringing more art to Hillcrest by way of painting murals, implementing 3D art installations or pop-ups, cleaning up the streets and welcoming new art spaces — like The Studio Door, who just moved to the area from North Park — in addition to holding an art walk-style event in Hillcrest.

Our 3rd Annual Holiday Party was held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at Hillcrest’s newest hot spot insideOUT. Over 75 community members joined us for food, drink, and holiday cheer! We also presented a L.I.O.N. Award (Let’s Improve Our Neighborhood) to Better Buzz Hillcrest for their incredible restoration of their space at 8th & University. Cheers to Hillcrest!
Clarice Yarger moved to Hillcrest almost 35 years ago. She was newly widowed and chose to live her bachelorette life in San Diego. Clarice was an early champion of the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) when it was created in a townhome across the street, and she faithfully attended HTC meetings, walking to them until she was 91 years old.
For more than 30 years, she served as a poll worker in the neighborhood and was a welcome face for many voters. She also volunteered at Florence Elementary School, where she read to children.
On Oct. 8, Clarice died peacefully at age 93 in her Hillcrest home. We will miss her.
